The Carnegie Library in the center of the town square in Owensville, IN was begun in 1916 and completed October 1917. It was built with light tan brick and has a tile roof. At the time, several reading clubs were active in Owensville, and when the library opened, the clubs donated many books to the library's use. It opened in 1917 with 1,450 volumes on shelving around the walls and reading tables and assorted chairs placed within the central part of the floors. It is a two story building with a large basement area. During recent renovations made possible by private donations, the stacks have been rebuilt by the same family that originally built the book shelves. New air conditioning, roof, and computer equipment were also upgraded.
The location of the Owensville Carnegie Library is 110 S. Main Street, Owensville, IN.
