Imbedded into the brick sidewalk in front of the Lincoln County Courthouse at 811 Manvel Avenue in Chandler, OK is a monument celebrating the 100th birthday of Chandler. Many pre-statehood bricks have been used on the sidewalk showing "Chandler O.T." (Oklahoma Territory)

Like many towns in Oklahoma, Chandler was opened for settlement by a Land Run. On September 28, 1891 at noon, a gun went off and thousands of people on horses and in wagons, raced across the area, hoping to be the first to claim one of the many parcels of land awaiting them. By nightfall, whole tent cities had arisen out of the prairie.

Chandler was settled that day and named for Judge George Chandler, a member of Congress and commissioner of the general land office in Washington D.C.

Over the years, Chandler has thrived. In the late 20's, Route 66 carved its way through downtown Chandler, with its many attractions encouraging folks to ride "The Mother Road."

The monument is enscribed as follows:
(In a seal):
Chandler 1891 Centennial 1991
100 years
Chandler
Oklahoma"

(Beneath):
"Dedicated this day
