Samuel de Champlain used his Astrolabe dated 1603 to navigate on his exploration of New France and what is now the Ottawa Valley. Samuel de Champlain lost his astrolabe while exploring the area in 1613. Eventually it was found by Edward Lee. It is now at the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Ottawa.
