This is one of many stones used to mark the "corner" points on the boundary lines between towns in Massachusetts, in this case, the Town of Hamilton and the Town of Ipswich. The letters "H" (for Hamilton) and "I" (for Ipswich) are inscribed on opposite sides. It is approximately eight inches square and three feet high. At some point in the past, an orange stripe was painted around the top of the marker. Although weathered, some portions of this paint can still be seen.
The marker is located on the east side of Sagamore Street, about 1.4 miles from Route 22, and 1.3 miles from Route 133. It is in a stone wall, about ten feet from the edge of the pavement.
The next adjacent marker heading north is
Hamilton-Ipswich 1 WM, 0.3 miles. Note that the town line to this marker is not a straight line, but rather follows the east side of Sagamore Street.
The next adjacent marker heading south is
Hamilton-Ipswich 3, about 25 yards (directly across the street).
