Soule College
Organized 1825 as "The Female Academy" by Misses Mary & Nancy Banks, & teaching rhetoric, philosophy, belles-lettres, painting, needlework & music, it was improved in 1852 & named for Bishop Soule of the ME Church, South. It closed during the Civil War, when its buildings were damaged. Reopening thereafter, it closed finally in 1916.
