The Wendler Building was built in 1915. During that year about 90 businesses were built in Anchorage, most were single-story false fronted buildings, the Wendler Building was the exception, as it was a full two story building with a turret. The building was built to serve as a grocery store operated by A.J. Wendler and R.T. Larson with the second floor serving as the residence of the Wendler family. The building has served many purposes for many years. The building served as a restaurant for many years called Club 25. The building was originally located at 4th and I but was moved to its current location at 400 D Street. The building currently houses a gift shop.
