Once again the Lincoln Hwy plays host to a fantastic memorial. This beautiful memorial includes a monument & statue, dedicated pavers & other neat stuff. The memorial overlooks the Codorus Creek. This is a Lincoln HIghway attraction worth seeing.

York PA Chapter 178 constructed the memorial, with a casting in life-size bronze. The lower portion of the Memorial is polished black granite, 6 feet long by 4 feet in depth and 3.5 feet in height. All four sides have frosted etched scenes. Approximately 700 known Korean War Veterans in the area were contacted and asked to be part of the Memorial by contributing at least $100.00 for a memorial brick. The brick is part of the surrounding walkway, and has the veteran’s name, branch of service, and rank at time of service engraved on it. Many families also remembered with their contributions for bricks.
The statue mounted on top of the monument is a life size sculpture of a soldier kneeling at the temporary grave of a fallen comrade who was killed on the battlefield. The grave is marked by placing the fallen soldier's rifle with a fixed bayonet, in the ground at the soldier's right shoulder.
The soldier's helmet is placed over the butt end of the rifle stock and positioned as it would have been on the soldier's head. The soldier's dog tags, which were removed from around his neck, are hung on the rim of the helmet to identify the body. The soldier's boots are placed next to the rifle to indicate that they will no longer be needed for his march to eternity. When the first opportunity occurs, the soldier's body will be retrieved from the battlefield and transported to its final resting place.

The memorial was designed and presented by York County Chapter 178, Korean War Veterans Association. It was dedicated in 2005.
