It's an easy 3/4 kilometer walk from the parking coordinates to the recommended access coordinates, then an eighty meter bushwhack to the stone foundation.
This area was first settled in the late 1800s. When the settlers first broke the soil, it was very productive but the fertility decreased in the early 1900s. Many people left to find work in nearby Winnipeg, Beausejour and Selkirk. A few did continued to farm until Birds Hill Provincial Park was established in 1964.
