An impressive war memorial built into the wall of Trinity and Priory Church in Royston

The memorial is placed in a paved area that is surrounded by a brick and flint wall. In the centre of the wall is a sculpted group in a faux Doric temple with stone panels either side carrying the names of the fallen.
In the centre of the memorial is a sculpted group formed by a typical Tommy and his historic Royston ancestors. The Tommy is in bronze and has a Royston crow by his feet, The ancestors are in white and represent :- a bowman at Agincourt, medieval knight in armour, Royston Scholar Thomas Cartwright, a soldier of George II, and a soldier from Napoleonic times.

The memorial was unveiled on 26th March 1922 by Lt Colonel E C M Philips. The architect was Mr P Morley Horder, the masons were Messrs W Whitehead and sons, the sculptor was Mr Clemons, and Messrs Jacklin and Co were the builders.
