This sculpture is inspired from a 1953 photograph showing workmen raising a tent which housed the Festival’s first four seasons before a more permanent structure could be built. The workmen are modeled on two fondly remembered participants in the Festival’s early years, tentmaster Roy “Skip” Manley and stage carpenter Al Jones.
Located on the grounds of the current Stratford Festival Theater complex, the statue depicts two workmen raising a tent pole while a young child and her dog watch from the stands.
