My niece from NY helped me find this at the side entrance to the high school.

Wednesday's event, at the central campus, also included the dedication of a 7- foot "peace pole" -- reminding passers-by of the responsibility for peace in schools and elsewhere. People read aloud the sentence in each language, including Spanish, Greek, Polish, German and Hebrew. The peace pole calls for peace throughout the world and especially in the schools, Spiers said.

Students and staff wearing purple beads gathered around the pole for a candle lighting ceremony. The Rev. Keith Forni, of Santa Cruz Lutheran Church, led the safe school zone vigil.

"Our peace pole is positioned near to the very heart and center of this campus," Fond said. "It will remind all who pass by it of their place and part in the building up of peace"

"May peace prevail on Earth. The word ‘prevail’ indicates a challenge, a struggle, an enduring effort," he said. "To ‘prevail’ requires engagement and action. That means, as hallway signs put it this week, ‘being big enough to walk away’ ... or in terms: being aware enough to intervene, courageous enough to seek help, wise enough to know of our need for each other."

The dedication was part of the centennial celebration at JT.
