In 1936, The American Society of Civil Engineers authenticated the existance of the El Camino Real, the King's Highway, in San Antonio, Texas. This small monument plaque is located in the southwest quadrant of San Pedro Springs Park near another, larger monument that also commemorates the Camino Real. This area of San Pedro Springs Park and the immediately surrounding area along San Pedro Creek, fed by San Pedro Springs, served as the creek's crossing point for the El Camino Real. This historic highway came out of what now is Mexico at the Rio Grande River, crossed Texas by passing through the San Pedro Springs in San Antonio, and continued on to the Sabine River (another border river of Texas)and on to the east/northeast of the US. In San Antonio, South and North Flores Street follows the El Camino Real pathway through the southern part of the city to the San Pedro Creek where Fredericksburg Road then becomes the pathway of the old El Camino Real into the Texas Hill Country area.
