Now preserved as a City park, Lexington Battle Green was where the first shots were fired in the US Revolution. It is where Capt. Parker said the famous lines: "Stand your ground. Don't fire unless fired upon. But, if they mean to have a war, Let it begin here." ...and it did on April 19, 1775.
About 700 British troops were on their way to Concord because they believed the Colonists had stored their weapons and ammunition there. They were confronted and repelled by about 50- 70 Minutemen.
