Dedicated to the men of the Parachute Infantry Regiments that trained at Camp Taccoa during 1942-1945. Located at the intersection of Dicks Hill Parkway (Old U.S. 123) and Ayersville Rd., Tacco, GA.
This monument is dedicated to the men of the 506th, 501st, 511th, 517th Parachute Infantry Regiments and the 457th Parachute Field Artillery Battalions. These men severed as Airborne Troops during WW II. They made combat drops into Normandy, Southern France, Holland, and several in to the Philippines and into Okinawa.
The memorial is in the shape of a deployed parachute. The shroud is white and you can see blue sky between the risers. The main monument at the base of the parachute list the number of men killed, wounded and missing during the war by regiments. There are four smaller monuments, one for each of the four infantry regiments listing the date the regiments was activated and the drops they made.
