The gauge in the Orleans Canal at the Lakeshore Blvd. Bridge is a simple staff gauge on the west bank of the canal.

In New Orleans, on the west bank of the Orleans Canal just south of the Lakeshore Drive bridge over the canal, is a vertical staff gauge measuring the height of the canal. This gauge appears to be visual only. A gauge listed on Rivergauges.com has coordinates that are much further south, near Orleans Park.
This gauge appears to be influenced by the tidal height of Lake Pontchartrain, as it is well north of the canal locks. I'm not sure what '0' is though my guess is that it is near the mean level of the lake.
Parking is available in a turnout to the east of the bridge.
