This wonderful bell located in a small scenic garden on Barker's Island in Superior Wisconsin.
Barker's Island was created by dredge spoils in the early 20th Century. The area is gorgeous, on Lake Superior, with grassy areas, playground, whaleback ship museum, mini golf and more, the garden offers a quiet respite from the hustle and bustle. Barker's Island was also once a bird sanctuary. A few years ago it had a busy marina, restaurant and gift shops but those have all closed. Still the area is a haven for tourists and residents alike. Farmer's Markets, concerts, watching the ship traffic and more make for a beautiful setting.
Located in the wonderful small and scenic garden is a Memorial bell. The plaque says:
Bell presented by the people of St. Louis Parish in Memory of the Great Lakes Seafarer's, May 1978.
St. Louis Parish is a Catholic Parish in the area.
The bell and garden make for a beautiful memorial and area for reflection.
