Montebello Park translates to "Beautiful Mountain" which is an odd name for this flat park. It was designed by Fredrick Olmstead and construction completed in 1887. Today is in the center of the city, just a short walk from the downtown core

An oasis in the heart of St. Catharines, Montebello Park is well used for recreation and relaxation. Annually it is home to many events especially those related to the Grape and Wine Festival or as it is known now, the Wine Festival. Rib Fest is also held here as well as other events. But most of the year the park is open for the general public to have a picnic, explore the rose garden, or relax in an open space. There is even playground for children.

Montebello was the very first park in St. Catharines and was build on land formerly owned by William Merritt. There is much educational information on this plaque at the posted coordinates as well as others around the Western side.
