This is a great trail, a bit over 3 miles to the summit of Brown's Peak. Climbs roughly 2000 feet from the trailhead to the summit.
It is a long ride on a rough dirt road back (20 miles), but it is worth it. The first 2.5 miles are a gentle incline, up 1300 feet or so to a saddle. You will pass interesting rock formation, many pine trees and other greeneries, and plenty of animals. Be warned, there is a large population of black bears in the area.
Once to the first saddle, the trail gets rocky and tenuous. You go right up a wash/crevice area. Doesn't look like it should be climbable, but it is. Take your time, and be careful.
Once to the top, enjoy the views. To the east Roosevelt Lake, you can see Flat Iron to the South West, and can barely make out the Phoenix mountains. Sit and enjoy the gorgeous views.
