Nonthaburi is a Thai province, about an hours journey north of Bangkok, by river boat, car, or bus. If you journey north by river boat (a pleasant trip—Nonthaburi is the terminus of the Bangkok river ferry service), you will see upon your exit, to your right, the provincial museum.
The museum opened on the 15 September 2009, and is housed in what is certainly a building with a history (it has been a college, a school, a hospital, a city hall), but the museum itself is modern, well designed and informative, however, the museum itself occupies only a few front rooms of the building, most of which seem to be unoccupied. Entry is free (donation requested). Photography is forbidden.
The museum displays cover the history of the province from the stone age through to the modern era. The first floor covers the history of the province, the second, the culture of the province. The displays and signs are all bi-lingual (Thai and English). Regrettably, the museum seems little used. The one attendant was surprised to see me walk into the museum.
