Unassuming head stone in Woodstown New Jersey's Saint Joseph's Roman Catholic Church Cemetery with no note of his baseball career.
Description: Played pro baseball for 10 years from 1916-1926. Utility player for the Philadelphia Athletics from 1916-1921. His contract was purchased in 1922 by the New York Yankees, and he played in both the 1922 and 1923 World Series for the Yankees as their centerfielder. His final season in 1926 was with the Brooklyn Robins, later to become the Brooklyn then Los Angeles Dodgers. Over his 10 year career, Whitey batted .287 with 1,195 hits and 18 home runs in 1,139 games.
