This Art Deco-Moorish cinema was completed in 1931 and ran as a cinema until the 1980s when Famous Players gutted all the seats. The Art Club Theatre took over and restored the theatre for live stage.

When Famous Players sold the Stanley Theatre to the Arts Club Theatre they gutted the seats and put a covenant on the title forbidding films to be shown in this great Art Deco-Moorish style cinema.
Built in 1931 as a cinema it sat 1,218 people. Today, in its live theatre configuration it only seats 650 patrons.
