A plaque in front of the Falcon says the following:
The USAFA Falcon
This statue was commissioned by
Mr. Irwin Belk to honor United States
Air Force Academy graduates for their
selfless service to our nation. The Air
Force Academy proudly recognizes Mr.
Belk's service as a member of the
Army Air Forces during World War II:
Sergeant Irwin "Ike" Belk
8th Air Force
491st Bomb Group
World War II
This bronze bird has an approximate wing span of 10 feet and sits about 12 feet above the walkway. It is mounted on a 6 inch bronze post which itself is mounted into a grouping of boulders. You can see every feather on its body and a predetors gleam in its eyes.
