This impressive Veterans Memorial is located just east of the city of Lakin, Kansas, on Hwy 50. The memorial includes a central brick monument that was dedicated in 1954, plus flags, several monuments that represent the various wars, a central monument with military seal, and a well preserved US Army M60 series tank.
There are five individual panels which are used to list the individuals from Kearney county who lost their lives in each of the wars. A separate monument lists the seals of each branch of the military: Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Air Force, Army, Navy.
It appears the brick structure may have been used for an eternal flame, but no flame was noticed the day we visited.
