The Mosgrove Familt acquired substantial acres of land south of the Village of McHenry. John Mosgrove was born in 1805 in Ireland and came to America before 1833. His wife Jane, was born in 1800 in Virginia. The family lived in Ohio before moving to Illinois. They had 4 children, the first born in 1833 they were Adma, Jan Isabella, William, and John C. John C died at the age of three and was buried in this cemetary on the family plot. Jan married a Canadian immigrant and raised a family on the Mosgrove Farm. Adam and William never married and lived ina small house adjacent to the family plot. In 1904 the Msogrove Brothers were taken to court by creditors and on December 12th were declared spendthrifts and drunkards and incompetant to handle their own affairs. A neighbor was appointed by the court as conservator and the sale of all assests and the payment of all claims was ordered. On New Year's Eve of 1904, Adam Mosgrove died at the age of 71 from sevre frostbite while walking home from a McHenry tavern. Bill survived for 2 more years. They were both buried in the family lot where a tall stone monument still designates the resting place of their parents and their baby brother. The McHenry County Conservation District now owns the land and has perserved the cemetary inside the Stickney Run Conservation Area
