On June 28, 1978, Bob Crane, known to the world as Colonel Hogan of the television show "Hogans Heroes", was brutally murdered in his room at this Scottsdale, Arizona hotel while he was in town directing and starring in the play "Beginner's Luck" at the Scottsdale Windmill Theater (now a nightclub called "The Buzz", located in the southeast corner of Scottsdale and Shea roads). The killer (or killers) have never been officially caught, although a friend by the name of John Carpenter (not the famous director) was indicted for the murder but found not guilty (Carpenter died of a heart attack in 1998 at the age of 70).
A lot of interesting information about Bob Crane, including his full autopsy report can be found at bobcrane.com.
The hotel has long since been sold and converted into the current condominium complex. The original room numbering has remained the same over the years. He was staying in 132A, which is at the posted coordinates.
