It is largely an agricultural community, surrounded by some of the best farmland in the province. The main crop is white beans, and Zurich celebrates this crop by holding a bean festival each year on the fourth Saturday of August. Organizers cook and serve over 2500 lbs of beans over the course of the weekend each year!
Zurich was largely settled by people of Swiss descent, which not only explains the name of the community, but also the distinctive Swiss design that can be spotted on many of the homes in town.
