The memorial plaque reads:
May all who pass this memorial
recognize the brave men and women
who have served in the United States Navy.
This memorial stands in tribute to their honorable service
that has changed the course of human events.
Serving in Duluth since 1898, their patriotism and sacrifice
have preserved the freedom of the high seas and made this port
what it is today. On every continent and ocean, Northwoods sailors have proudly promoted peace and security so the world would be a better place for our children.
Fair winds and following seas.
