Granite marker in memorial to the United States Naval Armed Guard, located in Canal Park, Duluth, MN.
Canal Park is Duluth's Lake Superior waterfront park. The park includes a concrete pier that allows visitors to view incoming and outgoing ships at Duluth's port entry. Also in the park is the Lake Superior Maritime Marine Museum. Lots of nautical displays, dining and venders, lakewalk, and more. A great spot and a local tourist must see.
The memorial is a granite display that reads:
In recognition of the 144, 970
United States Naval Armed Guard
Who stood the watches and manned the guns
on the Merchant Marine ships
They were there to provide firepower
to protect the ship and cargo transported
to the battle zones during World War II
In memory of the 1,810

Who died in action
We gratefully dedicate this memorial
in their honor
