A steady number of French and German settlers in the 1830s led to Kenton becoming a missionary church location for circuit riding priests from the Precious Blood priestly society.
The property for the current building was purchased in 1862 and the cornerstone for the Church was laid by Archbishop Purcell of Cincinnati on July 10, 1864. The Church was dedicated to St. Maria Immaculata by Archbishop Purcell on December 9, 1866. Through the vicissitudes of history, the parish eventually became known as Immaculate Conception.
