The library is built of a yellow brick highlighted with white sandstone corners. It has a centered arched entranceway that has definitive greek influences
The Union Free Public Library was established during a town meeting in November of 1894. It officially opened its doors March 25, 1895. At first housed in a private home, it quickly outgrew its space, and a dedicated building was completed in 1912. The library still occupies this same building.
Renovations of the basement in the 1960s and 1970s opened additional space for a children's room, which now houses our collection of junior fiction, non-fiction, reference materials, and videos, and provides a great resource for our local school children who visit on a weekly basis during the school year.
