Officer Murph was shot and killed by a criminal who not only shot other police officers and citizens, but also kidnapped and held hostage a 6 year old boy. Please read the accompanying link to understand the gravity of the situation in which Officer Murph gave his life.

Career Highlights
Officer Murph was aquired by the Tempe Police Department in February 1981 and in June 1982 he was assigned to his handler Officer Carlos Araiza. As a team, they received 8 departmental commendations. They participated in 336 building searches, 318 area searches, 24 narcotic arrests and 45 felony arrests. Murph lost his life on the night of November 21, 1986 while helping officers in an extremely hazardous situation. The citizens of Tempe and Murph's friends in the police profession will remember him with fondness and appreciation.
