The entire area of the Indian Bend Wash Superfund Site (IBW Site) covers approximately 13 square miles in Scottsdale and Tempe, Arizona. Motorola had been dumping toxic material (VOCs, including TCE and PCE) which filtered down into the groundwater supply. Prior to 1981, residents were drinking contaminated water. Including me.
There are 3 major plumes in the groundwater supply that is contaminated. Cleanup continues, with regular testing of wells. Currently, residents do not drink water from the contaminated wells. We periodically hear on the news of another well that is shut down due to the spread of a plume. You can read the technical aspects of it in one of the sites provided. (

At this site: 1,600,400 cubic yards of soil has been treated, stabilized, or removed (roughly equivalent to 1 Empire State buildings). 2,800,000,000 gallons of water has been treated, stabilized, or removed (roughly equivalent to 46 and a half supertankers).
You can still see one of the original wells at the intersection of Hayden and McDowell Rds, the intersection listed on the EPA report.
