The sculpture is of three workers wearing blue collar type work clothes and boots. The standing figure is a woman holding her hard hat in her hand. The kneeling male worker is supporting the worker who is seated.
The Illinois State AFL-CIO and the Chicago Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO originated the the idea for the statue to pay tribute to Illinois workers who were killed or injured on the job. The statue was dedicated April 28, 1992 on the anniversary of the signing of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970
