Announced on April 27, 2006, the joint project between GE Energy Financial Services, PowerLight Corporation and Catavento Lda, was inaugurated on March 28, 2007, averaging a cost of USD 75 million.

The 52,000 solar panels, which are raised around 2 meters off the ground, cover an area of 60 hectares (150 acres) and produce 11 megawatts of electricity (which at some point were expected to expand to 20 gigawatt/hour) saving more than 30 tons in emissions of geenhouse gases and creating alternative development to the Alentejo (one of Europe's sunniest spots but also one of the poorest)
Type of system: Photovoltaic (electrical)
