Qualcomm has hosted Concacaf (Confederation of North, Central American and Carribbean Association Football) games which act as World Cup qualifying rounds.
In January 1996, Qualcomm (then known as Jack Murphy Stadium) hosted the 1996 CONCACAF Gold Cup squads with games between Mexico, St. Vincent and Guatemala. See (

"Qualcomm Stadium has been a venue for many international soccer matches. The stadium has hosted FIFA tournaments, including the CONCACAF Gold Cup, and the U.S. Cup (an international invitational), as well as many international friendly matches involving the Mexican National Team. [4] The most recent international friendly at Qualcomm set an all-time attendance record for the sport in the region. The match between Mexico and Argentina which was held on 4 June 2008 drew 68,498 spectators."
Qualcomm Stadium was known as San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium until 1997. Qualcomm is the only Stadium to have hosted both the SuperBowl and the World Series in the same year. (1998) It is the current home of the San Diego Chargers and the San Diego State Aztecs. Other events are also held here: concerts, religious congregations, soccer games, etc. The Holiday Bowl and the Poinsettia Bowl are played here every year.
The San Diego Padres baseball team used to play here until they moved to their new stadium, Petco Park, in 2003.
The Stadium was opened in 1967. It is owned and operated by the City of San Diego.
The Chargers have been threatening to move to another city if they can not reach agreement with the City of San Diego on the construction of a new Stadium.
