This giant black bird is featured in the third pane of the Zippy strip, "Completely Atonal"
Surprisingly, this hilarious bird is listed in the Smithsonian Art Inventories Catalog as well. The bird is the icon for the surrounding shopping center. A plaque on the base indicates that Lee Hobbs was the designer and builder of the black bird.
