Keeping watch in front of
Hoodz Gallery in Eugene Oregon. This car part artwork features the use of tools, domestic tools and car parts to produce a very interesting and successful totem pole.
This piece was created by artist
Jud Turner.
It is a found what the artist calls a found object assemblage of welded steel. It is titled
"Monument to Cultural Usurpation".
An article in the Oregon Daily Emerald describes the piece this way;
"One of his newest pieces, “Moment to Cultural Usurpation,” depicts a 7-foot-tall totem pole in Turner’s series of holy objects for religions that don’t exist.
“It was inspired by Dreamcatchers sold at Walmarts and Kokopelli figures sold at gas stations,” Turner said.
The totem is decorated with Native American symbols made out of tools and pieces from the modern industrial culture, which, according to Turner, crushed the Native American people." Source:
