Quick Description: A tall stone monument now serves as a memorial to all those who perished in Mount Cook National Park. The original plaque remembers the first fatal accident when three men were caught in an avalanche on Linda Glacier in 1914.

The original plaque on the monument reads:
In memory of
Sydney L. King..... England
David Thomson
Jack Richmond......both guides, Hermitage.
who after ascending Mt Cook
were overwhelmed by an avalanche
on the Upper Linda Glacier.
Sunday 22nd Feb. 1914.

Erected by their comrades and friends.

Many more, too many more, plaques have since been added, in memory of all the others who have also lost their lives in this mountain area.
