This peace pole is located in Gateway Park at the end of 30th St. in Old Town Tacoma as 30th and Ruston Way merge to go to downtown Tacoma. The pole was donated by Bill and Ann Evans and was installed on March 11, 2009 by AHBL OTBPA.
The pole adds twelve new languages to the peace poles already in Tacoma - Tongan, German, Samoan, Ukrainian, Serbo-Croatian, Salish, Italian, French, Czech, Hindi, Lithuanian and Latvian - and the languages were chosen to represent the diversity of Tacoma's residents. Salish, or Twulshootseed, is the native language of the Coast Salish tribes.
