This large bronze sculpture know as "Horton Court" features a variety of popular characters from Dr. Seuss (Theodor Geisel) books, including Horton The Elephant (from the 1954 Dr. Seuss book "Horton Hears a Who!"), Thing One, Thing Two, Sally and her unnamed narrator brother ("The Cat in the Hat" - 1957), Sam-I-Am ("Green Eggs and Ham" - 1960) and Thidwick ("Thidwick the Big-Hearted Moose" - 1948). The sculpture depicts the characters in various positions situated around the a 14-foot tall Horton centerpiece, and includes intertwined shapes reminiscent of the type of structures commonly found in Dr. Seuss books.
This sculpture, along with three other popular sculptures based on the work of Dr. Seuss, is located in the Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden (
visit link) located in the Quadrangle in downtown Springfield, Massachusetts. The garden and sculptures are the result of a $6 million project funded by Mrs. Geisel (Theodor Geisel's widow) and through various public and private sources.
The creation of A.R.T. Research Enterprises (
visit link) the sculptures were unveiled in 2002.
The park is open during daylight hours (parking available on site). There is no charge for admission to the garden.
