In 1927, E.F. Boydston built a gas station on the outskirts of Decatur, Texas. He added a cafe and a motel. Then eight years later, he started covering the fascade with petrified wood. The cafe closed in 1964, the cabins around 1970, the gas station in 1989. Upon Boydston's death, the property was inherited by on of the grandchildren, Nancy Rosendahl, and her husband Jim. Together, they have restored the property to its 1945 appearance and opened up the cafe for business.
