1899 - James & Rebecca Ashby purchased 737 acres of land for 7 pounds & 6 pence per acre and 80 head of cattle.
1900 - James and his wife Rebecca built the existing homestead beside the beach where they raised 14 children.
1913 - A post office and school was established in the front room of the house.
1916 - A telephone line was installed and a tennis court built.
1932 - The original farm was divided into 6 dairy farms of about 100 acres each and taken up by family members.
1948 - Electricity was supplied to the house.
1954 - The fourth bedroom was converted to a bathroom and a septic tank installed. Some Puriri piles were replaced by concrete blocks.
1970s - A washhouse was constructed on the back of the house.
1990 - The Auckland Regional Council purchased the last block of land.
1995 - Officially opened the Tapapakanga Regional Park.
Work is underway on the Ashby Homestead to upgrade it and use it for holiday accommodation.
