When completed in 1892, the Equitable Building was the gem of 17th street, Denver's legal and banking street. The Equitable Building features a lavish Italian Renaissance Revival style featuring Tiffany glass windows, gleaming marble floors and walls, mosaic tile ceilings and ornate brass and bronze staircases. The buildings footprint is shaped like a double "E". It was designed by Andrews, Jacques and Rantoul. Its interior is equally ornate and was built to be the finest office building in the city at its time. This Italian Renaissance Revival building was the tallest in the Denver skyline (9 stories) at the time. The two-story base is constructed of pink granite (Pikes Peak). The building is still in use today and houses many legal firms and other businesses.
