Marion duPont Scott was the daughter of William duPont who purchased Montpelier, the home of James and Dolley Madison, in 1901. Marion spent her childhood at Montpelier and became passionate about raising and breeding horses and she herself became an accomplished horsewoman.
Three of her most beloved thoroughbreds are buried on the front grounds to the left of the Montpelier mansion. Three markers just beyond the Madison Temple mark their final resting place. The inscriptions read:
