Goodwin is located in the northwest corner of Deuel County, South Dakota. It is just a mile south of US Highway 212.
Its population is 148, as of July 2008, and this is about 8% less than the 2000 census.
The town was settled by German, Norwegian, Swedish, Irish, French Canadian, and Danish immigrants.
The town has been on the decline for many years and today it is not much more than a wide spot in the road.
The people who live there are friendly and proud of their small community but they are battling the steady progression of people leaving town.
Goodwin is about 10 miles from Watertown, so some of the residents use Goodwin as a bedroom community.
