According to old documents this gate maybe was a free-standing tower earlier that was integrated into the city fortifications in the 14th century. Most of these walls were destroyed in the 1850ies to give the city room for expansion. St. Albantor one of the few remnants, it's located East of the historic town center.
The gate can be accessed at all times but the tower is not open to the public.
