One of several abandoned mines in Joshua Tree National Park. The Mastodon Mine was filed November 11, 1934 and was worked off an on until 1971 by the George Hulsey family.

Nice hiking trails in this area and fantastic views from the top of Mastodon Peak.

Start at the Cottonwood Spring trailhead.
