The Arizona Republic began publishing May 19, 1890 as The Arizona Republican. The Arizona Republican ceased to exist when it was renamed The Arizona Republic on November 11, 1930. Six days later, its owners bought the Phoenix Evening Gazette (later named The Phoenix Gazette) and the Arizona Weekly Gazette (now the Arizona Business Gazette). Since 1915, the Arizona Republic has been the largest-circulation newspaper in Arizona.
