Born on April 18, 1845, Amzi Harmon entered the Army in Pennsylvania. He was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor during the Civil War on April 2, 1865, at Petersburg, Virgina. The text of his citation can be viewed at
(visit link) In all, a total of 64 Medals of Honor were earned in action at Petersburg, Virginia, in the period from March 25 to April 3, 1865, fifty-four of them on April 2 alone. Corporal Amzi Harmon was one of nineteen soldiers cited for their heroism in capturing the flag of the Confederate Army.

He died on October 9, 1927, at the age of 81. He is buried in the Mt. Peace cemetery in St. Cloud, Florida.
