The last battle on English soil is not remembered as well as other battles from the Scottish Jacobite uprisings. Some historians call it a skirmish. The Scottish fallen are probably from the Cluny Macpherson regiment, who kept back the English whilst the Scots king escaped. There were three groups of Scottish soldiers totalling less than 200 men. Whereas there were about 500 English fighting men, of which about 100 died. Ten of which are buried in Clifton Churchyard, at north end of village.

"In December 2006, the site was re-dedicated by loyal Scots, as the site was getting shabby. Please read.

They organised a new fence and plaque, cleaning up the site. The new plaque reads.

"In memory /
of fellow Scots who lie here on Foreign Soil /
Never Forgotten /
Prosperity to Scotland And No Union /
Siol Nan Caidheal / "
(/ indicate new line.)
Their efforts were reported in THE SUNDAY POST on December 24th 2006.
